With the cold winter weather here, chapped or dry hands are a common issue. In the winter it's very common for dry, chapped or even cracked hands. In this blog we will go over some basic tips to help keep hands healthy during the winter months.
What Can I Do?
1) Gloves- When doing outside activities in the cold weather always try to wear gloves. This will help keep the hands warm and insulated to avoid further problems down the road such as: eczema, frostbite or any other skin conditions as well.
2) Limit The Use of Hand Sanitizer- Despite helping neutralize bacteria on the hands, often hands become dry and fragile with multiple uses of hand sanitizer. The alcohol in the hand sanitizer dries out the skin making them more susceptible to cracking/peeling.
3) Moisturize The Hands- Using hand lotions or moisturizers frequently helps keep the skin texture, durability to help combat the winter weather. Not only will it moisturize, but also protect and heal damaged hands as well.
4) Proper Hand Washing- When washing your hands use a proper/quality soap to help ensure proper hand health. Excessive use of hot water/soap can actually dry the hands out and you lose the natural oils found within the hand as well. Using lukewarm water and a moisturizing soap should keep the essential oils while also keeping hands clean/healthy.
